A Mumford-Shah Level-Set Approach for Geometric Image Registration
نویسندگان
چکیده
A new, fully automated method for non-rigid registration of multimodal images is presented. Due to the large interdependance of segmentation and registration, the approach is based on simultaneous segmentation and edge-alignment. The two processes are directly coupled and thus benefits from using complementary information of the entire underlying dataset. It is formulated as a variational joint free discontinuity problem in the MumfordShah framework, with respect to a geometric variable describing the contour set and a functional variable which represents the underlying deformation. The contour set is represented by a level set function. We derive a regularized gradient flow and describe an efficient numerical method using and Finite Element discretization and multigrid techniques. Finally, we illustrate the method in several applications, such as multi-modal intra-patient registration and reconstruction by registration to a reference object.

Mumford - Shah based registration A comparison of a level set and a phase field approach
Traditionally, different image processing tasks are mainly considered on their own. The main aim of this paper is a combination of registration [25,26,47,58–60], i. e., the spatial alignment of images and segmentation [19,53, 17,18], i. e., the recognition of edges and object contours in images. A proper registration depends on a good initial segmentation and vice versa. In this paper it is pro...
متن کاملHierarchical Mumford-Shah Model for Vector-valued Image Segmentation, Denoising and Reconstruction
A novel hierarchical Mumford-Shah functional model is addressed to simultaneously segment, denoise and reconstruct the data within a given vector-valued image such as a color image, and to handle important image features such as triple points and other multiple junctions, which can be seen as a hierarchical case of the Mumford-Shah minimal partition problem for vector-valued images. At the same...
متن کاملFMR image registration using the Mumford-Shah functional and Shape information
Motion can have a significant impact on signal changes in functional MR images, and affect the detection of real functional activation. To minimize the effect of motion on the fMRI signal, we propose a simultaneous segmentation and registration model. Due to T2 weighted signal loss, decreased resolution, and low contrast in fMR images, the feature to be used for realignment can't be detected re...
متن کاملA Generalized Level Set Formulation of the Mumford-Shah Functional for Brain MR Image Segmentation
Brain MR image segmentation is an important research topic in medical image analysis area. In this paper, we propose an active contour model for brain MR image segmentation, based on a generalized level set formulation of the Mumford-Shah functional. The model embeds explicitly gradient information into the Mumford-Shah functional, and incorporates in a generic framework both regional and gradi...
متن کاملMumford-Shah Model for One-to-One Edge Matching
This paper presents a new algorithm based on the Mumford-Shah model for simultaneously detecting the edge features of two images and jointly estimating a consistent set of transformations to match them. Compared to the current asymmetric methods in the literature, this fully symmetric method allows one to determine one-to-one correspondences between the edge features of two images. The entire v...
